NS Summer School ’17

Following our collaboration with the University of Antwerp (see our older post), two members of our research group, Marek Suchánek and Peter Uhnák, participated in the Normalized Systems Summer School 2017 in Antwerp. During this very exciting event they learned how to design, analyze, create and customize Normalized Systems and worked on their own projects related to the NS theory and tooling, specifically about visualization, evolvable documents and conceptual modelling. Together with Dr. Robert Pergl, prof. Jan Verelst and prof. Herwig Mannaert they also discussed further broadening and intensifying of the collaboration between CCMi & FIT CTU in Prague, the NSX spin-off and also Faculty of Applied Economics – the largest faculty of the University of Antwerp.

This opens new prospects of  interesting theses topics, research projects and other challenging opportunities. We want to repeat NS Summer School with more students again the next year, as well as to improve and deepen our collaboration continually over time.

Data Stewardship Portal in faculty magazine

Article about the Data Stewardship Portal project we are working on as part of our participation in the European platform ELIXIR has been published in the fakultny magazine Buď FIT (Be FIT).

DS Portal at the ELIXIR All Hands 2017

As a part of our work within the ELIXIR-CZ and in cooperation with the ELIXIR-NL we are working on Data Stewardship Portal project, which aims to streamline and improve the creation of the Data Management plans primarily for scientific projects in the field of life sciences.

We’ve presented this project at the ELIXIR All Hands 2017 in Rome, where we introduced our approach and future plans during own (4 hour) workshop. Participants had the opportunity to try to work with a preliminary version of the portal as well as edit and create the content (the Knowledge Model). During the workshop as well as a previous poster session we’ve received not only positive feedback, but also interesting suggestions and ideas.

You can take a look at the workshop agenda with presentations, photos and our poster:

OpenPonk on ESUG’16

On 24th August, 2016 Robert Pergl with Peter Uhnák presented article about our open modelling platform OpenPonk, formerly known as DynaCASE, on this year’s conference ESUG (European Smalltalk User Group), which is held here in Prague at CTU, within IWST (International Workshop on Smalltalk Technologies) block. Even if you coudn’t attend the conference or just our presentation, you can take a look here.

We visited Formetis Consultants

FormetisFormetis Consultants, our Dutch industrial partner and sponsor invited our students working on enterprise engineering topics into their headquarters in Boxtel, The Netherlands. We presented our work, got valuable feedback and support from the CEO Steven van Kervel. Prof. Jan Dietz also came to see our progress. The involved topics were:

  • The CIAO! App – a diploma thesis of Bc. Roman Lánský focused on designing a simple messaging and task management application based on the PSI theory and implementing a prototype.
  • Transformation of DEMO models into BPMN – a diploma thesis of Bc. Ondřej Mráz, which continues the work of Štěpán Heller, MSc.: an effort to bring the DEMO rigour into the BPMN world and vice versa: providing an intuitive visualisation of DEMO transactions.
  • Ongoing work on the Action Model in Formetis DEMO Engine done by Bc. Marek Skotnica as his diploma thesis.
  • Bc. Peter Uhnák presented our DynaCASE project and we discussed the synergies with the DEMO Engine.

CTU has become a member of ELIXIR-CZ

ELIXIR-CZ logo

Infrastructure ELIXIR (European Life-Science Infrastructure for Biological Information) was founded for the purpose of creating and linking distributed research infrastructure for storage, processing and analysis of life sciences data. It responds to the growing needs of the research community which generates a large and exponentially growing amount of data needing to be stored efficiently, to extract key information and access them. Czech Republic became one of the first members of the consortium and is currently involved in a number of activities within the consortium.

Bioinformatics at CTU has its firm position especially in the form Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and activities at other faculties. On FIT is a research about searching compression of DNA sequences using the dictionary methods and approximate searching patterns in genomes (research group Prague Stringology Club). Most recently, Center for conceptual modeling and implementation get involved in those activities and launched cooperation within ELIXIR-CZ to increase interoperability of bioinformatics data – effort, which is very topical for example in The Netherlands, Slovenia and other countries of ELIXIR infrastructure. The advance in this area is primarily in applying ontological methods in combination with software tools.

ELIXIR-CZ awaits in 2016 great development of investigated topics as well as the infrastructure (technology, cooperation, projects, financing). Involvement of CTU and FIT brings significant opportunities for our researchers and students.

Cooperation with ForMetis is underway

CCM shares with ForMetis enthusiasm for innovation in Enterprise Engineering and IT technology based on the methodology DEMO. At present, we are running those joint projects:

  • Marek Skotnica – bachelor thesis focused on the implementation of the Action Model to DEMO Engine developed ForMetis.
  • Finalizing education-simulation portal https://www.demoworld.nl (CCM participates in beta testing).
  • From next week we start a project focusing on the application DEMO in Governance, Risk & Compliance.

CCM is a part of the TACR project team

A joint effort of FIT and Profinit was successful in applying for a project funded by the Technology Agency of Czech Republic. The project is named “Tools for Automation of Quality Assurance of Vast Business Intelligence Systems and Data Warehouses”.

CCM is a part of the FIT project team. Our part are several conceptual topics dealing with analysis, design and also implementation. Check our web pages for more updates soon.
